Styling your home like a PRO

DON'T BE AFRAID TO GET M O O D Y

Sometimes all it takes is a moodboard -  having everything you like, together, right in front of you helps clarify exactly what you like and don’t like! Use Pinterest, Instagram, flick through magazines and collect your fave visual references. This will help you cement your own personal style and nail down exactly what look shows off your individuality.

THE MORE STYLES THE MERRIER

Don’t feel like you have to stick to one style. So many of you think that the items in your home have to belong to one, specific style (e.g. strictly scandi.) THIS IS SO NOT THE CASE. I often find that the most engaging and experiential spaces are those that tell a story whilst the most boring, standard and COMMON ones are the ones that feature a piece that everyone has. The places that resonate with me the most are in fact the ones that have a myriad of items from travel, inherited pieces from parents, one or two really stand out, WOW pieces and anything else that embraces individuality. Don’t be afraid to show off pieces that evoke fond memories. Invest in one thing that you really LOVE and make this a piece that really stands out. By having this statement piece, you really don’t need to fill the space with undesirable and ineffective clutter.

QUANTITY NOT QUALITY

You are probably thinking WTF. But this is so true sometimes. Why not collect a few of the same, or even varying, jars, cheap vases or even a mixture of varying candles. This creates a striking effect, mood and ambience that will make your home look like it’s fresh off the cover of a magazine! Three vases looks so much better than just one. And remember, try sticking to odd numbers for the best effect.

TRAY IT UP

Trays in the home = tres chic. Perfect for a coffee table, entrance foyer bench or even in a powder room. Pile up some books, add a candle, a small bunch of blooms or even an old perfume bottle and voila – you are already hot to trot!

LAYER SLAYER

The more you layer the space, the more homely, inviting and comforting it becomes. Add that wow factor with a throw and some scatter cushions. There are tons of cheap and amazing options available and this can really help bring that extra dimension to your home.

ITS THE LITTLE THINGS

Sometimes the tiniest details make the most dramatic and biggest statement.  Why not change up the door hardware. There are some seriously cool and unique things available today like leather door handles and tabs and unique finishes and textures. Incorporate these details throughout the house to make sure you achieve a cohesive look.

And lastly.. Have fun with it! Remember everything in moderation and don’t clutter. Don’t feel the need to fill every inch of the house, this will only make the space feel smaller. Please do not finish reading this and employ every tip I have given in every single room. Try out a few in different spaces and if you feel intimidated and don't know where to begin, I always say - Don't be afraid to go with your gut!
