Behind the scenes: Georgia takes on Morocco
Happy new year gorgeous followers! I hope that you have all had an indulgent holiday and have all enjoyed your little break from reality. So, I'm back in Melbourne after an amazing and much needed vacation in Sydney. How many of you are like me and are already dreaming about the next travel destination after being back home for approximately 15 minutes. SIGH. I'm sitting here longing for my next vacay and it's brought back so many good memories from my last overseas trip..
In September of 2017, Richie and I, along with Jesse, took time off to visit Morocco, braving the 32 hour aeroplane ride - which may I add, was actually 3 individual flights with hours in between, with a 14 month old, who, at the time had an ear infection and was on antibiotics - lets not go into the part that mummy and daddy left the bottle of antibiotics in the fridge of the first leg! ....
For 2 weeks, we explored the beauty that is Morocco, the country of my dreams and the place where I draw most of my inspiration from. For these 2 weeks, we wandered round the streets, marvelling over every inch that Morocco had to offer. We gorged ourselves on the most delicious and fresh food, explored the Riyads, Dar's, Medinas, rolling hills in the mountains of Marrakech and gawped continuously over the majestic architecture and designs. This trip was the best thing I could have ever done for myself - I was able to refocus and reflect on my life, all that I have achieved and all that I dream of achieving for 2018.
As I sit here in Melbourne and reminisce on one of the most needed and best holidays of my life, I feel compelled to share with you the highlights of this incredible journey. Like a true tourist, I lugged my monstrosity of a camera and my iPhone (for insta stories obviously) around with me, making sure that I could bring just a glimpse of the magic of Morocco back with me to Australia.
So ladies and gentleman.. without further adieu, I give you... Georgia, Richie and Jesse take Morocco.
DAY 1: HONEY I'M HOME
Our first stop was Casablanca. Having just survived several long flights, we arrived at the Sheraton, with one very jetlagged child. I was completely taken aback by the majestic beauty of the lobby. Just sitting there was a sensory overload. Sky high palm trees and ornate light fittings adorned the space with the sounds of birds chirping; this was no run of the mill hotel. And this was just the hotel lobby - if this was any indication of what we were going see, we were in for one hell of a time.
DAY 2: WHERE IT ALL HAPPENS
After settling in, eager and curious, we hit the streets in pursuit of the place where all the magic happens - the factory that makes my pride and joy, my zellige tiles. These are the very tiles that I design and import into Australia which have truly become one of my biggest passions (you can see more HERE.)
Seeing some of the completed orders packed onto palettes and ready to be shipped all over the world to places such as Saudi Arabia and America etc was extremely fulfilling. We left the factory with full hearts (and VERY full stomachs thanks to the best damn pastries I've ever tasted) and headed to something that I had been looking forward to for months - Dar Ben Souda.
Dar Ben Souda is quite simply one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in my life. SO much beauty, history, passion and love lies between the walls. Gorgeous and light-filled courtyards and the sheer grandeur and scale of the space make this Riad a must-see..
That's all for today lovers but stay tuned for next week where we our fairytale story continues.. Have you been to Morocco before? What were your "must see's and do's?"
